“Consider again that dot. That’s here. That’s home. That’s us.”

… stories of home and heart to encourage and inspire
Upon seeing the image of earth amidst the vastness of the universe, famed astronomer, Carl Sagan, described it as a pale blue dot. He believed that this visual simplicity underscored our responsibility to deal more kindly and compassionately with one another and to preserve and cherish that pale blue dot as it is - the only home we have ever known. In my life and work, I have embraced this belief in a manner that makes it both personal and profound.
I must admit - in an era when we define our life’s work by whether it is “essential”, picking out paint colors did not feel important. Twenty years as a designer has taught me that the decisions we make to shape our surroundings, in turn, shape us. While many of these stories will cover the “before and after” for projects, they are more about the transformation that must take place within us to make possible the changes around us.
How we live, the work we do, and the actions we take are all rooted in who we are and where we began — that place called home. So, let’s rock it. Let’s build upon solid foundational values, rock the boat when necessary, and cultivate a sense of self that allows us all to be the rock star of our own life.
